Membership of Ashbourne Sabre Club

Ashbourne Sabre Club supports the British Fencing Association through the Clubs affiliated membership, and encourages its members to become individual members of the association.

For any information about coaching (including beginners courses, clubs and sessions run by our coaches) e-mail us.  We run a four week course of half hour sessions to introduce you to fencing.  Please arrange a time during our main sessions.  Your first introductory session is free of charge.

Sabre Fencing. 

 

The sabre (aka saber) is one of the three weapons of modern fencing.  The sabre differs from the other modern fencing weapons, the épée and foil, in that it is possible to score with the edge of the blade, allowing for an increased chance of scoring; for this reason, sabreur movements and attacks are extremely fast and is considered to be agility based. For the other two weapons, valid touches are only scored using the point of the blade. Like the foil, but unlike the épée, sabre uses the convention of right-of-way to determine who acquires the touch
